critical defense:
My personal opinion is that critical defense is bad since when I see a sin throw it up I instantly think, "hmm, I'm gonna kite so that critical defense runs off before he lands a crit, then he's gonna have to deal with the long down time", but not everybody is that smart, and you just have to be smart when you use the skill.
Way of perfection:
Good heals for you, requires points in shadow arts tho.
Assasins Remedy:
Probably an excellent choice, always nice to have condition removal for yourself.
Shroud of distress:
Great blocking skill, long recharge, and subject to enchantment removal.
Smoke Powder defense:
Blind attackers.
Heres an idea for a chain you can add:
Iron Palm->Mantis Touch->Blinding powder
This would give you a knockdown, a snare, and once again blinding ability. You need to inflict a conditions first, maybe through sever artery.
Sometimes the best defense is a good offense, maybe use Wild Blow, or one of the many warrior interupt attacks.
Deadly Riposte and Riposte:
You've got a sword so why not, good block and extra damage.
Return:
Good snare and lets u escape back to your monk for heals.
Any shadow arts healing spell for that matter.

any build, using a sword, warrior primary or secondary, needs sever artery and gash.
a warrior using a sword without sever artery and gash is a bad warrior.
also, any offensive melee build needs an increased attack speed skill (IAS) and since you want to play defensive, throw in flurry so you keep yout defence. Frenzy is for brave people.

Malicious Strike would fit nicely in there too. :3
But sever and gash really are standard on anyone using a sword.
I tride a sword on my assassin once.
The build I used was
12 Sword, 9+1 crit, 9 shadow.
Sever, Gash, Malicious, flail, Death's Charge, and Way of Perfection.
I know it's not a full bar, but I was hanging out in Shing Jea with a guildmate and did it for fun. :] was using a 3-5 damage Katana I picked up on the way. Amusing stuff.

Melee have a hard time in JQ. With Crit Def and a shadow step, you could take the Ranger shrines. The others will rip you apart regardless of your build. Apart from that you're down to snaring/killing enemy stragglers and Turtles/Jugs.
Big question: why swords? Of all possible weapons, that's the worst you could choose.

A sword assassin is just a bad idea of jade quarry and a 'crit sword' build in general is flawed espicially when compared to abusing scythes.
In JQ when playing offensively you want manoverablity/snares/ranged damage(basically spellcasters + bows)/interupts or just a mix (you cant always have all of them in some templates when gaining in others). For defensive play, i'd say there are better templates then using a sword assassin.

In reaction to everyone saying you nééd Sever Artery, why didn't anyone mention Sharpen Daggers yet? That way you got a nice bit of fire- and forget damage with Seeping Wound -> Gash. With high critical strikes you could just aswell fit in Hamstring and/or Malicious Strike too. Focussing more on damage over time and applying conditions.
On the other hand, Seeping Wound is severely underpowered. Just like it always has been. So you pretty much have a wasted elite, no use for critical strikes (due to low top-end damage from swords,) and absolutely no benefit over another class.
's Fun though!

that's just fail... +, sever+gash totally sucks, IMO... alot better to take bulls strike and body blow than those 2 crappy skills, (wont work on your sin, ofc)
for your sin... dont go with a sword... hurts my feelings to make a sin useless
PS sin, way of the assassin, critical strikes scythe(in pve its even better O.O), knocklock combos, anything... not sword.... spend some nice 20 mins in pvx wiki and you'll get a gd build eventually

Wiki doesn't condone creativity. Which is what [he/she] is trying to do.
Good by their standards may not be good to general opinion of the individual players. :]

Buzzkills sword, or any melee for that matter, as you can use that and be forced to auto attack with other, stronger weapons.
Good for the Perma, bad for the aspiring melee pwner. :]
